Born 1948 in Hamburg. Study of medicine at the University of Erlangen and Heidelberg. Since 1977 in different positions at the Max-Planck-Institute of Psychiatry, Munich. Fellow of the Max-Kade-Foundation/New York, Cornell-University, The New York Hospital (1987 – 1988). From 1986 until 2013 head of a clinical department at the MPI. Since 1998 Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Ludwig-Maximilians- University in Munich.
Further activities:
  • Since 2005 treasurer of the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP)
  • Since 2006 member of the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP)
