Born in Mannheim, Germany. Study of medicine at the University of Bonn. Since 1996 Postdoc and resident in psychiatry and neurology at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry. Visiting scientist at the Netherlands Institute for Brain Research, Amsterdam (1997), Assistant Medical Director and Head of the research group "Molecular Stress Biology" at the MPI since 2004.
