Born in Landshut. Study of medicine at the Ludwigs-Maximillians University of Munich. 1977/1978 visiting scientist at AVD-Center for Behavioral Neurobiology, Salk Institute, La Jolla, California/USA. Since 1983 Professor, Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich. From 1984 until 2008 Head of the department of Clinical Neuropharmacology at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry.
