Scientific profile
The Group’s mission is to understand the mechanisms through which stress and corticosteroids influence the pathophysiology of mood and cognitive disorders and to identify potential prophylactic and therapeutic targets for improving mental health during the aging process. We are particularly interested in the adaptive and integrative structure-function relationships that occur in the brain that contribute to lifetime mental health. Our research involves the use of cell-based systems and whole animals; we apply physiological, behavioural, pharmacological and morphological, as well as cellular and molecular tools, to help us identify potential pathological and protective pathways and mechanisms that are triggered when a cell or organism encounters a stressful stimulus.
