Scientific profile
The mission of the research group "Molecular Neurogenetics" is to unravel the molecular and cellular underpinnings of psychiatric diseases focusing on mood and anxiety disorders. We take advantage of the mouse as a model organism in order to functionally validate candidate genes emerging from clinical observations, unbiased screening approaches or genome-wide association studies. Employing conditional mutagenesis as well as novel techniques involving suitable siRNA delivery systems enable us to target candidate genes at a high spatial resolution and in a temporally controlled fashion in order to study their role in hypothalamic pituitary adrenocortical axis regulation as well as in anxiety- and stress-related behaviors.
Additional, the group maintains the in house microarray facility and provides its expertise to all research groups at the institute and external collaborators.
The research group is an integral part of the clinical cooperation group “Molecular Neurogenetics”, which has been established between the Max Planck Insitute of Psychiatry and the Helmholtz Center Munich.
