Scientific profile
The prior aim of the research group "Neuronal Network Dynamics" is to uncover changes in neuronal network activity and interneuronal communication within the brain that significantly participate in the development and/or the appearance of core symptoms of psychiatric and neurological diseases. For this purpose, mainly focused on affective and anxiety disorders, we use various methods in different mouse models, namely classical electrophysiological in vitro techniques, calcium imaging, infrared-guided photostimulation, nonlinear data analysis, molecular biological methods and novel approaches, such as "high-speed voltage-sensitive dye imaging" and "optogenetic" stimulation/inhibition of the electrical activity of local neuronal assemblies. We further work on the elucidation of neuromodulatory actions of different endogenous and exogenous substances, among them corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), antidepressants, cannabinoids and anesthetics.
